Clare Belbin Ba(QTS) Level 5 diploma in SpLD
Since qualifying as a primary school teacher in 1999, I have worked in both the state and independent sector across KS1-KS5 as a Class Teacher, Head of Key Stage and as a Specialist Literacy Teacher. As a classroom teacher, I was very aware of children’s literacy difficulties and ensured I provided a safe and positive learning environment to allow all children to thrive. By removing their barriers to learning, I was able to instil a love of learning.
When my twins were learning to read and write I became fascinated by their differing abilities and my journey to become a dyslexia specialist began. Following completion of the Dyslexia Action Level 5 Specialist Dyslexia qualification I joined a State Upper School and Sixth Form College as a Specialist Literacy Teacher and provide tutoring to children in their homes in the evenings and Saturdays.
I am passionate about supporting all learners achieve their academic goals and develop their self-confidence. I follow the Dyslexia Action Literacy Programme for children with literacy difficulties which is a structured, cumulative and multisensory literacy programme. Following a placement assessment, I create a tailored programme to suit the needs of each individual learner, targeting areas of weakness and ensuring maximum progress. Activities created for each individual learner include self-checking to develop self-monitoring and confidence.
By creating a safe, child centered environment and adapting to the needs of each of my students I allow them to grow both in terms of their enjoyment in learning and their progression.
